The Man Who Sold His Skin is de nieuwe film van de Tunesische filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania (Beauty and The Dogs).

Art can be beautiful, art can raise questions and art can shock. In 2006 the notorious artist Wim Delvoye put an enormous tattoo on a human back and then sold the work to an art dealer. Tunisian film-maker Kaouther Ben Hania was inspired and turned The Man Who Sold His Skin into a political parable with satirical undertones.

The Man Who Sold His Skin is the new film from Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania (Beauty and The Dogs). The film is carried by Yahya Mahayni as Sam, who is seduced by the treacherous Monica Bellucci as the personal assistant of artist Godefroi (Koen De Bouw).

‘A beautiful, original story about dignity, love and the true nature of freedom’ (Movies that Matter).

Sam Ali is separated from his great love and flees Syria. He meets the famous and provocative artist Jeffrey Godefroi, who turns unusual objects into valuable art. He offers Sam the opportunity to travel to Europe by making his back available. Sam grows into a living work of art worth millions on the art market. The freedom he thought he would find turns out to be a sham. Can he escape his own body?

The Man Who Sold His Skin was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars and was the opening film of the Movies that Matter Festival. Mahayni won the award for Best Actor in the Orizzonti program at the Venice Film Festival. The film is loosely inspired by an original artwork by Wim Delvoye.
